Saturday 1 – South Pacific Please pray for a God-inspired AGM of the Bible Society of the South Pacific in Fiji today. Pray for safe travel and great fellowship for the Regional Representatives of the South Pacific countries. Sunday 2 - Word for the Week James 1:18 “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of firstfruit of all he created” Monday 3 — World While Bible Society works in over 200 countries, less then 10% of those countries raise sufficient funds to contribute to Bible work outside of their own country. Representatives (including Alan Harris) of these donor countries are currently in the UK. Please pray for great wisdom and guidance as they make decisions about which foreign Bible projects they can assist financially. Tuesday 4 - India Please pray for Christians in Orissa who have suffered horrendous violence and persecution since late August. Pray that somehow God will give comfort and hope through His Word. Wednesday 5 – Tasmania/Bolivia Praise God for the Bolivia Photographic Exhibition in Launceston. Opening night raised over a $1,000. Please pray for more funds to be raised, for Bible ministry in Bolivia, as the exhibition continues. finishes 23 November Call us on 6331 0248 for details Thursday 6 — Singapore Bible Society is currently leading a tour of 42 Singaporeans in Turkey, retracing the footsteps of St Paul and visiting the 7 churches of Revelation. Pray that the trip will be life-changing, and that participants and their contacts will learn to value the Scriptures even more than the do already. Friday 7 - Tasmania Praise God for the wonderful provision made by a number of supporters through their Wills. One such bequest, that should be received from the Trustees soon, could possibly go a long way to providing the much needed new home for Bible Society Tasmania.Saturday 8 – Vietnam Please pray for the revision teams that are working on the final stages of the Vietnamese and Rade translation projects. Pray that God will inspire their work and speak through these Scriptures. Sunday 9 - Word for the Week “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
Monday 10 - Cambodia Praise God for Bible Society of Cambodia’s 40th anniversary last month. Pray that many Australians will contribute to, and learn, about Bible work in Cambodia through the 2009 Annual Project. Tuesday 11 - Australia Amongst other outreach-focused Christmas Scriptures, Bible Society has, this year, produced a beautiful and very economical Gospel of Luke titled “The Real Story of Christmas”. Please pray that these will be widely used, including in schools, and that many will come to understand the real meaning of Christmas. Wednesday 12 – Pakistan Please pray for the security and safety of staff of Bible Society, especially staff who travel for Scripture distribution, as terrorist activities are currently at a high level. Thursday 13 – New South Wales Please pray for a great launch of the “Jesus, All About Life” campaign in the Hunter region of NSW, this morning. Pray that, through the campaign, many will come to acknowledge Jesus as Lord and also that Christians will become more effective at sharing their faith. Friday 14 - Jamaica For five million people, Jamaican Patois is the language of the street and home, which captures the spirit of the Caribbean. But Patois speakers remain one of the largest groups in the world without any Scripture in their own language. Please pray for the team currently translating the New Testament into Patois. Saturday 15 – extra Word for the weekend “All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.” Colossians 1:6b Sunday 16 - Word for the Week John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Monday 17 - Togo Please pray for staff member Alex Ankou, who was seriously injured in a car accident while returning from a “Faith Comes By Hearing” trip in September. Bible Society of Togo have been severely tested recently; pray that a sense of joy will be restored to staff members. Tuesday 18 - Tasmania Thank God that, last month, Bible Society was able to supply, at hugely subsidised prices, 150 Biblezine New Testaments and 100 illustrated Children’s Bibles for Chaplains to distribute in state schools. Ask God to speak to students through these Scriptures. Wednesday 19 – United Kingdom Following the example of a number of charities, Bible Society has produced an “Ultimate Alternative Gifts” catalogue. The purchaser makes a donation to cover an aspect of Bible ministry (e.g. a Children’s Bible, or translation of a short passage of Scripture) then they receive a card to forward to their loved one, stating that the gift has been made on their behalf. Please pray for a good uptake of “Ultimate Alternative Gifts” during Christmas. Thursday 20 – Tasmania Please pray for today’s State Council Meeting in Launceston. Pray for God’s clear guidance, especially in regards to the relocation of Bible Society’s office, as we are due to move out of the Elizabeth St, Launceston premises in March 2009. Friday 21 - Palestinian Territories The murder of bookshop manager Rami Ayyad in October 2007 brought visible Bible Society ministry in the Gaza to a halt for a year. Please pray for divine wisdom, protection and strength as Bible Society relaunches its work in Gaza.
Saturday 22 – extra Word for the weekend 1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” Sunday 23 - Word for the Week “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Monday 24 - Gabon Often it is important to have people who do not know Scripture well as translation reviewers. Thank God that reviewers, like Mouity Ramba, come to know Him “While translating the Book of Ezekiel, I decided to turn away from my bad habits and change my lifestyle, Everyone who knows me says that I’ve become a different man!” Tuesday 25 - China Praise God for the recent printing of 50,000 copies of the West Lisu Minority Language Bible. It had been 12 years since the last print run of this translation. Please pray that the West Lisu Christians in Yunnan province will read and be nurtured by the Word of God. Wednesday 26 – Belarus Despite contamination, people have returned to rebuild and live in areas that were desolated by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Pray for Bible Society’s “Chernobyl 20 Years On” project that is reaching out to these people, who are still very affected by the disaster. Thursday 27 – Philippines This weekend Bible Society will be involved in “Youth Explode”, which aims to encourage Filipino youth to be Bible lovers, and to regard God's Word as their ultimate guide to life. Please pray for this to happen. Friday 28 – Bangladesh Please pray for the Bangladesh Bible Society Board Meeting today. Ask for God’s direction for the Board, especially in regards to which translation projects can proceed in the immediate future. Saturday 29 – extra Word for the weekend 2 Thessalonians 2:13 “But we ought always to thank God for you brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.”
