Friday 1 - Australia

Pray for "The Book that Changed the World" exhibition as it tours Australia . Pray that many will visit the exhibition and be impacted by how powerful, influential, important, and relevant the Bible is for all people. After opening in Adelaide in April, and spending most of June in Parliament House, Canberra , the exhibit opens in Sydney today.

Saturday 2 - Nepal

Starting tomorrow and continuing until Wednesday, Nepal Bible Society is organising Interaction Visits in partnership with local churches and para-church organisations in different parts of Central Nepal . Pray for safe travels for Bible Society staff and for all who participate.  Also, pray for open hearts and minds to see what God is doing.

 

Sunday 3 - Word for the Week              

Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.               Lamentations 3:22-23

Monday 4 - Australia

A number of internal changes required to merge 6 state Bible Societies in to Bible Society Australia take effect this month.  Please pray for staff to quickly adapt to these and other changes over the next few months.  Pray that Bible Society Australia will quickly reap the benefits of a united and more efficient national ministry.

Tuesday 5 - United Kingdom

Please pray for "The People's Bible" tour taking place from 19 June to 16 November.  While celebrating the KJV 400th Anniversary this tour will highlight technology by encouraging people to use a digital pen to  write Bible verses which will be uploaded to the internet at www.thepeoplesbible.org  Pray that this tour will help many to see the value and relevance of the Bible today.

Wednesday 6 - Australia - Indigenous Services

Pray for our former Flying Bibleman, Phil Zamagias, as he oversees Bible Society's ministry among indigenous Australians. This especially includes liaising with other Mission groups to ensure as much as possible of the Scripture needs of the Aboriginal communities are met.

Thursday 7 - East Timor

Praise God for ongoing translation work in the Fataluku language, even before a Bible Society exists in East Timor . Please pray for the completion of the Gospel of Luke, and opportunities to use the literacy materials that are being prepared. Pray also for good relationships to be developed with church leadership and other organisations within East Timor .

Friday 8 - Tasmania

Please pray for this evening's Tasmanian Bike for Bibles Annual Winter Get Together.  This will include planning future rides and reviewing the rides held over the past 12 months.  Pray for state co-ordinator Nigel Coates and others who help make Bike for Bibles events happen.  Pray for great sharing, networking and brainstorming.

Saturday 9 - South America

In May representatives from the Bible Societies of Bolivia, Chile , Ecuador , Panama and Peru attended a workshop on illiteracy and domestic violence hosted by the Chilean Bible Society .  Please pray that skills, experiences and plans shared will lead to effective ministry, and ask God to give wisdom and guidance as Bible Society seeks to reach out with the Bible to individuals, and through them change society.

Monday 11 - Australia - Digital & Publishing

Pray for one of Bible Society Australia 's newest staff members, John Sandeman, as he takes up responsibility for the publishing side of Bible Society Australia . This not only includes Scripture publications, but also other publications such as a new national magazine and managing Bible Society's involvement in the "Eternity" newspaper that John started a few years ago but is now published by Bible Society.

Tuesday 12 - Central African Republic

Praise God for the crowd of 300 who attended May's combined UBS World Day of Prayer and Launch of the Faith Comes by Hearing (FCBH) program in Common Sango, (the national language).  Thank God that many of the Church leaders present have already decided to organise FCBH listening sessions in their parishes.

Wednesday 13 - Tasmania

Praise God for the release of 42 MegaVoice audio Scripture players in one of the difficult countries in North Africa .  The shipment had been funded by a Tasmanian supporter and sent in April, but it was withheld by customs for almost 2 months. On May 24th we sent out an email prayer request about this and then the MegaVoices were delivered on 8th June.  Pray that God will speak to many through these MegaVoice Scriptures.

Thursday 14 - India

Please pray for Bible Society's plans to provide 500 audio Scripture players in various languages to visually impaired Indians this year.  Pray they will be a blessing not only to the recipients but also to friends as they listen to God's Word. Pray for the project to reach 30,000 visually impaired people over the next 5 years.

Friday 15 - Australia

Praise God for the recent development of "Coming of the Light," to commemorate the 140th Anniversary of the Coming of the Light Festival in the Torres Strait Islands .  The booklet contains Scripture selections on the theme of light. The selections are from the forthcoming Yumplatok (Torres Strait Creole) New Testament, which is planned to be launched at the 141st Coming of the Light Festival in 2012. Pray that there will be interest in the booklet, and that it will foster further interest in the future Yumplatok New Testament which is in the final stages of translation.

Saturday 16 - Serbia

Praise God for the joy with which the first copies of the Gospel of Mark in Romani were received in the Romani church in Leskovac in April. Pray that having this Gospel in their heart language will help Romani's grow in and share their faith. Pray for ongoing work to translate the rest of the Gospels and to produce audio Scriptures.

 

Sunday 17 - Word for the Week

The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.           Lamentations 3:25-26

Monday 18 - Australia - Corporate Services

Please pray for Ken Doran as he oversees the many practical and administrative aspects of running a national organisation. This ranges from everything such as IT and telephone requirements to vehicle and building maintenance.  Some of the changes will include new email addresses and a national phone number (that will be answered in the state the call is made from).  Pray for smooth changes.

Tuesday 19 - Egypt

Praise God for the comfort provided by His Word to people affected by May's attack on 3 Coptic churches and many Christian-owned properties which left 15 dead and over 200 injured in Imbaba district of Cairo.  In response Bible Society printed 30,000 copies of a new Scripture Selection, "But Trust..." which has been gratefully received by Imbaba Christians.

Wednesday 20 - Tasmania

Praise God for the recent supply of Scriptures to chaplains in schools, hospitals, seafarer's missions and a Christian Radio Station.  Each of these provides outreach opportunities with people who may rarely or never go to church. Please pray for God to work through chaplains and these Scriptures to reveal Himself to people who need to know His Love.

Thursday 21 - Japan

Four months since the earthquake and tsunami there are still people living at evacuation camps and many uncertainties with radiation containment. Please pray for Bible Society as they continue to reach out through relief work, the distribution of Scriptures and helping affected churches. Pray for people to find hope and comfort through God's Word.

Friday 22 - Australia

Until the end of August, Broadway Actor Bruce Kuhn will be performing "The Gospel of Luke" at venues around Australia as part of the KJV 400th Anniversary. Please pray for good health for Bruce and that travel, venues and all details will work as planned (or better). The tour starts in Subiaco WA today.

Saturday 23 - Cote d'Ivoire

Praise God for the safety of Bible Society staff and buildings during the Battle of Abidjan that ended with the arrest of the President on 11 April. Despite systematic looting of offices and businesses Bible Society's headquarters were not looted (though it was shot at and in another district a van and a translator's laptop were stolen). Ask God to bless Hyppolite Kokora, the main watchman who stayed near the headquarters during 12 days of shooting and looting.

 

Sunday 24 - Word for the Week                       

My whole being will exclaim, "Who is like you, LORD?

You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them."             Psalm 35:10

Monday 25 - Australia

There are 90 million people living in the Philippines and around 80% are Catholic. Yet 60% of all Filipinos have no access to a Bible.  Please pray for Bible Society 's Charlie Gatt as he shares with Catholic churches in Australia about the "May They Be One" project which is aiming to distribute 5 million Bibles to poor families in the Philippines by 2013.  Pray for the $10 million required to meet this goal and ask God to use the Bibles distributed to fully reveal Himself to recipients.

Tuesday 26 - Peru

Praise God for the translation and publication of the Bible in Huallaga Quechua, the fourth indigenous Peruvian language to receive the full Bible. Please pray for a joyful launch of this Bible on 6 August.

Wednesday 27 - Tasmania

Bruce Kuhn's performance of Luke comes to Tasmania on Sunday in Burnie, then in Launceston (Monday) and Hobart (Tuesday).  Please pray for full houses and appreciative audiences. Pray especially for some who may attend for academic purposes (i.e. University students studying English Literature).  Also, pray for all the technical details to work out.

Thursday 28 - Laos

Praise God for the recent setting up of a Scripture distribution centre in Vientiane , in partnership with the Laos Evangelical Church . Please pray for Bible Society staff in this restrictive country, pray for strength and for insight towards how to increase the popularity of the Word of God within the population, and for an ongoing successful partnership with Laos Evangelical Church .

Friday 29 - Australia

In the past, operating as six separate Bible Societies, a variety of logos have been used in different states.  A new national logo has been decided upon and will soon appear on all literature, displays, websites etc.  Please pray that supporters will be receptive to the new look even though for some there will be a tinge of sadness as the old makes way for the new.

Saturday 30 - World

This year the Muslim holy of month of Ramadan is from 1/8 to 30/8. Please pray for Christians living amongst and ministering to Muslims.  Pray that God will use His Word and His people to reveal Himself to Muslims.

Sunday 31 - Word for the Week                           

Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.              Psalm 36:5
