The Influence of the Bible
The influence of the English Bible, particularly the King James Version, on both the language and culture of English-speaking people over the past three centuries has been incalculable. Its phrases are everywhere in our daily speech, in our historical documents, and in our literature.
Moreover, the Bible has inspired people in all walks of life, and ideas contained in it have stimulated many humanitarian endeavours. Hundreds of men and women have also suffered hardships and even risked death to carry the knowledge of the Bible to the far corners of the earth, having to learn to speak many different languages in order to convey its message. The Book that began as the holy writings of an obscure nation in the tiny country of Palestine has now gone around the world.
